Good stuff...
This is what happens when the leaders of a religious org places themselves as the sole interpreters of scripture.
Alternative service, vaccinations, organ transplants, three prime examples where dubs needlessly suffered great personal loss and even death due to doctrines that changed.
But the blood issue has got to remain the most glaring example of the Society totally disregarding the context in which a scripture was written in order to support a particular doctrine. And context is the prime factor we need in order for us to understand what a certain scripture means.
Here's the context...
Do not eat blood: When you kill an animal for sustainance, drain it's blood onto the ground in respect of the life that was lost to sustain your own. Blood transfusions don't involve the death of the person who donated the blood. Scripture therefore does not apply.
Abstain from blood: Folks in those days were aware no doubt of certain practices neighboring pagans engaged in regarding the the use of blood. We would view some of these rituals as most bizzare and shocking, especially ones involving human sacrifice. The listeners would have known that scripture meant to simply not engage in this kind of misuse of blood. A blood transfusion is a strictly medical proceedure that is not attached in any way to pagan blood rituals. Again, scripture does not apply.

Do you know that as an established fact, or is it just your opinion?

Hi Yeru,
: "Blix made gains and advances in his search?"
You know, like gaining access to a place, or achieving greater cooperation from Iraqi officials, that type of thing. Whenever the U.N. made these types of gains, Bush was quick to play it down. If there actually were all these WMD and Bush was eager to find them, like he says, a reasonable person would think Bush would welcome ANY progress made regarding access and un-hindered inspection.

As a Canadian, I'm really pissed at Bush. In the months leading up to the invasion of Iraq, I was solidly behind Bush. But I kept waiting for the evidence of WMD to show, it never did. Whenever Blix would announce some gain or advance in their search, the Bush adm. would downplay it. All the while they kept talking about some so-called evidence which ultimately never materialized, and in fact people at high levels of both the Brit and U.S. governments knew the evidence was "juiced up" to convince citizens of the urgent need to invade Iraq. At this point, it is very evident that the U.S. agenda was to invade Iraq from the outset.
This is not the gulf war. Iraq was not invading or bothering anyone else. In our culture, you don't invade another country unless it poses CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER to your country. WMD were used as the reason for invading Iraq; it is clear that the main objective all along was not to rid Saddam of WMD, but to simply go after Saddam. Bush was patently dishonest. You would have to be very convincing to make me believe that Bush didn't know what was going on with the intelligence, either.
The whole thing stinks

: "Waymore. you have a PM"
Central Canada has a PM. The rest of the country just sort of follows along
Except for Alberta. We kind of do our own thing, which sometimes doesn't impress Ottawa

Hi 2cool,
I consider myself an Albertan because I love it here and have lived here for 25 years. But I was born and raised in northern Ontario.
Way out back where the huskies go, don't you eat that yellow snow...
